Can kids benefit from chiropractic?

By | Blog | No Comments

Patients frequently ask me if chiropractic is safe and necessary for children. As a mother safety and benefit of any treatment is very important to me. I remember before my daughter was born, I had multiple books and magazines that reviewed and suggested different car seats, baby food, cribs, toys, diapers and etc. I also remembered that I interviewed so many pediatricians until I found the one that my husband and I felt comfortable with. I do understand the concerns that parents may have with finding the correct approach and treatment for their children.
To answer their questions, I always take them to the very basic of chiropractic philosophy which is a heathy nervous system. The nervous system, which consists of brain, spinal cord and nerves, controls everything in the body. Subluxations, also known as misalignments, in the spine can cause stress to the nervous system, which can lead to a decrease in function of the affected area.
Infants going thru birth canal or even born via C-section or suction cup can sustain misalignments in their spine, which in turn lead to poor sucking ability and poor motor development and possibly other issues with their nervous system.
Even healthy children can sustain minor traumas from falls and playing sports and can lead to subluxation in their spine, which in turn can impair the communication of their nervous system with their body. Most neural pathways develop during the first 5 years of life. It is important for children to have a healthy nervous system so they can reach their best potential.
In my 25 years of practice, I have treated many children on their journey to adulthood.
